Fliegl - Jobs boost as German firm sets up new HQ in Lincolnshire

    10 Jun 2015

German farm equipment manufacturer Fliegl is to open a new headquarters and factory at Frampton Fen in Boston.

The family run business – known in the UK for its manure, slurry machinery and push-off trailers – is in the final stages of negotiations to sign a lease on a property.

The business will employ around 10 people including five apprentices who could be taken from surrounding schools and colleges, according to the manufacturer.

The company expects to see large growth in the renewable energy sector – particular in the transport and management of woodchip for biomass and maize silage for anaerobic digestion.

Commercial director Jose Viedma said the focus would be on tipping trailers, but other products could later be added.

Mr Viedma said: "We're looking forward to building on the success we've had elsewhere and offering British farmers the very latest in agricultural innovations.

"We know it's competitive and there are already a lot of other manufacturers, but we're confident we'll be able to make inroads into the market.

"We hope to help with unemployment in the Boston area and we'll look to local schools and colleges.

"We want to be part of the community – from improving the skills of the local workforce through to supporting the local football team. We're keen to get involved. "

The HQ will also be used to support Fliegl's current network of UK dealers, which the company is looking to expand.

The company has said a lot of the materials would be shipped in from Germany, but where possible they would also use parts of the UK supply chain, for example steel.

The opening of the new premises coincides with the company's 40th anniversary.

Councillor Peter Bedford, leader of Boston Borough Council, said: "This is excellent news for the borough. It brings a redundant site back into use and demonstrates the growing confidence people have in the area as a place to do business.

"I am especially pleased to hear there will be places for apprentices and training in manufacturing.

"It is also good to note this new business will be meeting the needs of the growing renewable energy sector.

"This confidence in Boston and the borough is also being shown by the expansion of B&M with their new store at Alban Retail Park creating 60 jobs and increasing footfall for other businesses in the area.

"Local businesses are also investing – Carl Dunham has opened his second traditional butcher's shop in Red Lion Street. It shows Boston is working when a local businessman, who knows the area well, is prepared to invest. His expansion is also good news for all his local suppliers."
